Italian farms have always been highly regulated: numerous analyses are conducted daily. On top of this, there is also the Classyfarm methodology.
According to the site Carni Sostenibili, the Classyfarm system complements the numerous analyses conducted within the farm, and we are the only country in Europe to have veterinary controls managed directly by the Ministry of Health rather than the Ministry of Agriculture, demonstrating that the focus is on food safety associated with the health of the final consumer.
In this context, to reduce fraudulent behavior by some (fortunately few), a new system has been developed.
Classyfarm, how does it work?

This classification has been implemented by the Ubertini Zooprophylactic Institute in collaboration with the University of Parma and is regulated by an algorithm. We can summarize it in 3 phases:
- Phase 1: since the establishment of the company veterinarian in February 2018, the farmer entrusts this person with monitoring the crucial phases of the farm, such as animal welfare, feeding, health status, and use of medications. The collected data is transmitted to the Classyfarm system through the Vetinfo portal;
- Phase 2: To the data from Phase 1, we add those from the animal registry and the electronic veterinary prescription, as well as data from inspections and information collected on-site by veterinary services present in the farm and slaughterhouses;
- Phase 3: Thanks to an advanced algorithm, it is possible to assess the farm. The collected data are categorized by geographical areas, allowing for targeted interventions, both in performing necessary monitoring services and in guiding decisions for the protection and development of livestock activities.
Is joining Classyfarm mandatory?

Using this certification is not mandatory, but it certainly adds value to the farms.
Although it is very complex and costly, Classyfarm can add value to the farm, even from a commercial perspective.
The certification of farms is also part of the European Green New Deal and Farm to Fork policies, with particular emphasis on animal welfare.
