For a Healthy Calf Diet:
Tecnozoo Veterinarian’s Tips
Every good farmer knows that the early stages of life are crucial for the animal’s well-being and for the future production of milk cows.
At Tecnozoo, we believe that an optimal weaning process should start not from birth, but from the last month of gestation through to the transition to solid feed.
Additionally, it should be noted that a newborn calf’s stomach is not comparable to that of an adult: in the early stages of life, the digestive system of the animal is similar to that of a monogastric. At this time, the digestion and absorption of nutrients by the calf are only facilitated by gastric and pancreatic secretions.
Only at a later stage will the animal’s rumen become active.
At this stage, it is advised not to feed the calf hay, as this could lead to the formation of hay balls in the animal’s stomach, causing a slowdown in the intake of concentrates and the development of the rumen.
